The Founder’s Award is presented annually to the outstanding franchisee in the system. The award recognizes operating excellence, marketing acumen, community involvement, and overall support of the Wendy’s system. The winner best represents the personal and professional values established by Wendy’s founder, R. David Thomas.

1999 – Hall Of Fame

Wendy’s Hall of Fame recognizes long-term achievement, consistent standards of excellence, and outstanding success.

2007 – Jim Near Legacy Award

Employer of Choice

Wendy’s Jim Near Legacy Awards grew from a desire to honor the former chairman’s memory and recognize those in the Wendy’s system who share Near’s passion for people. It is awarded for both Employer of Choice and Best Program.

Franchisee Jim Furman’s outstanding record speaks for itself. His personal investment in his people and restaurants has made him the successful operator of 72 thriving stores in North and South Carolina.

His franchise was honored in 1990 with the Wendy Award and in 1991 with the Founder’s Award. He has also served on the Franchise Advisory Council and WNAP.

His stores are committed to serving quality food and creating a positive work environment. He values his employees and encourages them to treat others as they would like to be treated.

“Jim’s standard for excellence is one of the reasons Wendy’s has such an outstanding reputation,” says Senior Vice President of Midwest Region Jack Whiting. The franchise’s sales and profits trends show they consistently exceed their customer’s expectations. And this year Furman’s stores posted the highest score ever for a franchise of its size on the Quality Assurance Audit.

Furman is active in his community and serves on the board of directors for Samaritan’s Purse, a nonprofit missions organization. He’s spearheaded Wendy’s participation in “Operation Christmas Child” which assists children in developing nations. Furman also serves on the board of Wingate College.
